Grandparents who show up are the real superheroes. Their presence is a treasure that should never be underestimated or taken for granted. While not all grandparents may be perfect, hopefully, you were blessed with at least one amazing grandma or grandpa – it’s a relationship like no other, filled with love and significance.

In my case, I was fortunate to have three sets of grandparents due to remarriages in my family. Out of my six beloved grandparents, three have passed on, leaving a void that I deeply feel. Nevertheless, I am incredibly grateful to still have three living grandparents. Throughout my childhood, my grandmothers and grandfathers played a significant role in our family, showing up for us in big ways.

During a challenging time when my parents separated, my dad lived with his parents for a few months. As a result, my sisters and I spent every other weekend at our grandparents’ home until my father bought a house. Amidst the confusion and uncertainty, the familiarity and stability of my grandparents and their homemade a huge difference for us.

Now, as an adult, I truly appreciate the generosity of my empty nester grandparents, who warmly welcomed their son and three granddaughters into their home. It was a significant change for them, but they made us feel completely at home and loved.

Throughout my life, all of my grandparents have been incredibly supportive and helpful. They have been there for us in various ways, and here are some reasons to appreciate grandparents who show up:

1. Grandparents Aren’t Parenting: Unlike parents, grandparents have already raised their kids and now get to enjoy the fun part – spoiling their grandkids! They can relax the rules and create cherished memories with their grandchildren.
2. Grandparents Can Be Flexible: With more time on their hands, grandparents often have greater schedule flexibility. They willingly step up in times of need, be it during emergencies, for date nights, or helping out when a new baby arrives. Their support is invaluable, and they gladly lend a helping hand.
3. The Wisdom Of An Older Generation: Grandparents carry a wealth of wisdom from their experiences. Their unique perspective can offer valuable insights during challenging moments. They remind us that things tend to work out, even when life feels overwhelming.

So, here’s to all the grandparents who show up for their kids and grandkids every day. Your love, guidance, and presence make you true superheroes, and we are deeply grateful for you.
